Membership

What is Membership?

Membership is an agreement to abide by the garden regulations set out by the community, to care for the space, the tools, and fellow gardeners, to share in the work, and to share in the harvest.   It is also an opportunity to create and vote on the direction of the community group and the garden.

Regular membership is $20.  Children are free.  PWYC is available.  Everyone is welcome to join.

Once you have signed up to become a garden member, the next step is to sign up to a garden team.

Please choose one or more of the following areas to participate in:

  • Garden Design and Beauty
  • Soil Remediation Research and Planning
  • Construction of Container Beds and Vertical Structures
  • Fundraising
  • Communication
  • Shoppers
  • Manual Writing - Governance and Garden Agreements

New teams will be created as needed and suggestions for any roles not listed are welcomed.

Do I need to become a member to be involved in the garden?

No, not really.  If you wish to volunteer at the garden on general work days or in a specific area of interest that is perfectly fine, and very kind of you!  Send an email to let us know how you'd like to contribute your time and energy.

How do I sign up to become a Member?

Please come to one of our meetings, which are held alternating Tuesday evenings @ 7pm in the Annette Public Library.  Weather permitting, meetings will be held onsite.  The blog and facebook pages will be kept up to date on additional meetings, times and locations.

You may also sign up easily online via paypal.
Please enter the amount you wish, suggested $20 per person.

**Please read the Member Agreement below prior to accepting membership.

**Ravina Community Garden – Community Member Agreement Summer 2014**

Welcome to Ravina and the 2014 growing season!  We are thrilled to have you on team as we build this community garden, transforming grass to urban farm.  The next few months will involve time, energy, cooperation, vision, and commitment.  Through it all, you will be co-creating with a supportive community of gardeners, harvesting the rich bounty of the Ravina grounds and sharing the collective community wisdom.

Please read the Garden agreements and be aware of the proper gardening etiquette before signing and accepting membership. These guidelines have been established in order to ensure that the Garden functions smoothly, and that the safety and well-being of all members, and the surrounding community, is respected.  Please refer to the Member Handbook for more detailed guidelines.  This document may be found online at www.ravinacommunitygarden.blogspot.ca.

As a member of the Ravina Community Garden I agree to the following:

1.     I will pay an annual $20.00 fee. This fee (per person) includes:
·       Communal membership fee (access to the communal harvest from May – October)
·       Tool usage fee and a donation to the general upkeep of the Garden

2.  I will contribute to communal garden efforts, which may occur in the context of planting, weeding, watering, maintenance and/or organized projects, over the growing season (March – November).

3.     I agree to respect the Ravina Community Garden space and property. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that all materials and tools are returned to their proper location after each use, no waste is left at the Garden site and reporting any suspicious activity to the Garden Coordinator and/or Toronto Police Service.

4.     I understand that neither the Ravina Community Garden, nor the owners of the land, will be held responsible for my actions.  I THEREFORE AGREE TO HOLD HARMLESS THE RAVINA COMMUNITY GARDEN AND THE OWNERS OF THE LAND FOR ANY LIABILITY, DAMAGE, INJURY, LOSS OR CLAIM THAT OCCURS IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OF THE GARDEN BY ME, MY FAMILY, OR ANY OF MY GUESTS.

  1. I'm sorry I've missed the meeting: but I am keen to join and get involved on spring/summer weekends. Thanks for the convenience of being able to join online. Can we create our own version of Dufferin Grove? I hope so!
